A Survey of Women Artists, Part 1

This fascinating class honors the profound contributions of women artists throughout art history. Moving chronologically from the Middle Ages to today, discuss the work of artists from the Renaissance to Impressionism to Contemporary Art and everything in between. Learn how women artists are sometimes "lost" and how their unique perspectives move art in new directions. Artists discussed include Sofonisba Anguissola, Judith Leyster, Mary Cassatt, Berthe Morisot, Frida Kahlo, Georgia O’Keeffe, Cindy Sherman, Marina Abramovic, the Guerilla Girls and more

*Optional add on at checkout - For an additional $20, spend a day at the art museum with Adrienne H. Lee, The Wandering Art Historian! Tour the Minneapolis Institute of Art with Adrienne on Saturday, November 14th from 11:00am - 12:00pm as she highlights work by artists discussed in her fall classes Art Outside the Box and A Survey of Women Artists, Part 1. She'll also point out examples of the different art movements, styles, and subjects covered in her classes, like the Baroque period, the tradition of portraiture, and Impressionism. This unique experience encourages participants to apply what they learn in class to a museum setting, enhancing their understanding by seeing the artwork in person. This tour will also prepare students for Adrienne's Spring 2027 classes. Cost includes the guided tour. Participants are responsible for their own transportation. Participants are welcome to stay for lunch at the Minneapolis Institute of Art and shop at their stores. Donations to Mia are accepted at the door.
