Accidental Presidents Part II – Who changed the course of American History
Nine Presidents have not completed their terms in office. Four died of natural causes, four were cut down by an assassin’s bullet, and one resigned in disgrace. There have also been as many as ten “Near Misses.”
Each death and the single resignation changed the course of American history. Together we will examine how these changes occurred, how that changed our history for better or worse, and the story behind why these nine presidents left office before their terms was up, and the story behind the men who replaced them.
Part II will review:
Day 6 - Warren G. Harding and VP Calvin Coolidge
Day 7 - Franklin D. Roosevelt and VP Harry S. Truman
Day 8 - John F. Kennedy and VP Lyndon B. Johnson
Day 9 - Richard Nixon and VP’s Spiro Agnew, Gerald Ford, plus Nelson Rockefeller, and also look at two who were cut short (Robert Kennedy and George Wallace) but may well have influenced who was president if either had survived unscathed.
Day 10 - Ten Near Misses – We will look at the ten Presidents who survived medical emergencies, deadly accidents, or assassination attempts.
